Space Management

2024
Board Game Design

Context

Board game design combines many aspects of graphic design: product design, packaging, branding, data visualization, and team management. In this project, my team aimed to create a thematic, comprehensive, and fun-to-play board game.

Product

Space Management is a dynamic, space-themed board game, space stations are orbiting around the planet Mechora, each trying to escape the planet’s orbit before an incoming asteroid causes their end. In this 3–4 person game, players play as these space station, each trying to gather resources from the planet’s moons to build up their power grids in order to escape the system before the end of the game.

This project’s creation combined aspects of user experience, product design, playtesting, player feedback, graphic design, and teamwork to create a visually pleasing, unique, and fun final product.

Created in collaboration with Isha Jain and Magdalene Ma.

The Game

Creating this project required a large amount of collaboration and group work. In my team of three, we had to navigate how to ideate together while also distributing the workload of designing game pieces, writing copy for the rulebook, and designing the user interface of the game so that it would be both understandable and enjoyable to play.

How to Play

Playtesting

A large aspect of this project’s process was its playtesting, where my teammates and I would hand off our game to a group of players and see what they could understand without our help. Then, we would receive feedback from playtesters on the visual interface and wording of our rulesets. After these sessions ended, we would make revisions to the game and repeat the process again and again.
